After getting the Moby running last week the drive pulley decided to chew up all it's teeth. I was riding through campus and all of a sudden I lost momentum, but my engine was revving to the moon. I looked down and saw the carnage. It's not a horrible repair, but one where I had to order parts and wait. I got them in the mail on Friday and took them with me to Indy on Saturday to hangout with Lance & Candi. I was able to get everything put together and running just right. We went for a 6 hour ride through the city with numerous stops for snacks and gas. I had an awesome time visiting and am now super stoked I have a running moped to get me to classes and work. So here it is, the Super Moby!
Last week we had a bunch of people show up to our weekly ride, some even came down from Indy. It was AWESOME! 10+ riders going through town with 60 degree weather is about as good as it gets. I was really hyped up and so was everyone else. We rode until the wee hours of the night and got to fix 2 mopeds. I was able to get a Puch Cobra running for a friend and it was a great feeling. It was nice to meet new people and now they will be coming down every Thursday to ride with us. Good times.
I will have to post some updated photos of my fleet before this weekend. My Pucho is now my daily rider, a solid 35+. The Moby is also a daily that was used the other night to haul around 2 people with no problems. My Swinger is now incomplete and a non-runner. I sold some parts from it to help pay for other needs. Hopefully come summer I will be able to fix her up, but as of right now the Moby is my fastest ped at 37.7mph. Going slow has never been so much fun.
I haven't purchased anything yet, but I would like to build something VERY similar to this. It would be red and have a long seat, but the concept would be the same. I would keep it 50cc and try to make it reach 40mph. I am going to the Louisville Rally this weekend so maybe the following weekend I will be getting the red moby.
With the weather approaching the 60's and mid-terms behind me I can now ride my mopeds without worry. I have spent weeks preparing both of the mopeds and they are pretty much ready for longer rides. They both need a cleaning and new tires, but other than that they are good to go. I am planing on attending the moped rally in Louisville this April and will definitely have the tires by then.
This past week I have been obsessed with getting more speed out of my Puch. One of my buddies that I go riding with is flying past me every time and I wish I could keep up. I am getting a speedometer this week in the mail and am going to try some different sprockets to see if I can reach 40. If I go riding by myself I seem to be going fast, but with Dallas I feel slow. I will definitely find out this week what my speed is.
