I have 3 strong runners sitting outside my apartment. Each with their own quarks and feel. I recently upgraded both Tomos' and put a smaller carb on the Moby. Here are the specs:
Pintomos: Stock cylinder, larger carb/intake, geared out for top speed, expansion chamber for top speed. As of right now it's not dialed in and tops out near 40mph. Still a great ped and my first project. More mods to come!
Moby: Did a small piston mod last month and I didn't notice much. I downgraded the carb to try and get some lowend back. I haven't really messed with it, but hopefully soon. Still a strong runner and a good loaner to friends for small town rides.
Red Tomos: Purchased for my Father and recently got upgraded. I tossed the old exhuast and threw on a ripper. I removed the air filter and upjetted accordingly. Now this thing is pure fun. It's a quick 30+mph and should have the power to pull my father up the driveway. I can't wait for him to ride this. I cleaned it up, installed a new seat and rear rack.
Over the past few weeks I have been helping a buddy of mine tune his recently kitted Puch Cobra. While I enjoy helping others tune/fix mopeds, it made me want to work on mine a bit. So last night I took apart my Tomos top-end to find massive amounts of buildup and rust in the exhaust. I spent about an hour cleaning it and will hopefully finish up tonight. This little cleanup should provide me with a bit of a boost and overall better performance. This upcoming weekend I will be coming home to visit family for the holiday. I will be wrenching mopeds with my father and possibly bringing one moped home to store for summer.
It's official. My project is now a running moped!!!! I put it all together yesterday while we had the awesome weather and now I'm tuning it. I actually rode it up and down the street. I don't have any photos yet, but I will soon. I also hope to upload a video of it. Yay for awesomeness!
So this past week I have been gathering parts for my Dad's Magnum and my personal project. I have ordered/received a new carb, carb parts, jets, intake, cables, fuel line, filters, tires, and numerous tools/cleaning supplies. I also bought a parts ped in Indy this past weekend for my personal project. I need to come up with a neat name for it. I bought a 1984 Tomos in pretty damn good condition, except it doesn't run. That's not the point though, I will be able to use the engine mounts, wheels, shocks, and random other parts for my project. I already sold the cylinder for a quarter of the price I paid for it. I'm hoping to make a little profit off of it and use the rest on my ped. Right now I have it figured out to about a $50 profit, not bad. I will post pictures later when I'm not at work.
